Catalogue Help
Searching the Catalogue (Basic Search)*
By Author: enter the author's name in the search box, either "first name, last name" or "last name, first name". Select "author" from the drop-down menu on the left. Click "Submit".
By Keyword: enter a keyword (e.g. "soccer") to find items on that topic or enter part of the title. Leave the left hand drop-down menu to the default "keyword". Click "Submit".
By Title: enter the exact title of the item, with or without articles at the beginning. For example, a search "The Sun Also Rises" or "Sun Also Rises" will produce the same results. Click "Submit".
By Format: to search a specific format (e.g. CD Book, DVD, etc), select the desired format from the drop-down menu on the right hand side.
By Subject: similar to a keyword search but more specific. If you get limited results with a subject search, try a keyword search.
By Series: enter the series name in the search box and select series from the drop-down menu.
*Use specific search terms. Evergreen will search for the words you specify, not the meanings, so choose search terms that are likely to appear in an item description. For example, the search luxury hotels will produce more relevant results than nice places to stay.
Placing Holds
(FYI: in our new system, "holds" and "reserves" are the same thing)
1. Search the catalogue for the item.
2. Click on the title of the desired item.
(note the format indicated by the icon under the item information - book format is a picture of a book, sound recording is a horn, etc.)
3. Click on "Place Hold" (to the top-right of the item information).
4. Enter the barcode on the back of your library card in the "Enter Recipient Barcode" box that appears. Click "Submit".
5. Review the item and contact information, then click "Place Hold".
6. To check the status of a hold: login to your account and select the tab "Items on Hold". Note the status.
Renewals
1. Log into your account ("My Account").
2. Click on the "Items Checked Out" tab.
3. Select the checkbox (furthest right of the item name ) of the item(s) you want to renew.
4. Click "Renew Selected Items". You will get a message that says "Are you sure you want to renew the selected items?". Click "ok". You should get another message to confirm that your items have been successfully renewed.
History
The new system system does not have a history function; the items you take out are only on record while they are out to you. This is to protect your privacy.
If you wish to keep a record of items you have checked out from the library, use the Book Bag function:
1. Log into your account.
2. Click on the "My Bookbags" tab.
3. Under the heading "Create a new Bookbag". enter the name of the bookbag you are about to create (i.e. "history" or "read"). You have an option to "Share this bookbag" or not. Sharing your bookbag makes it visible to others.
4. Without logging out of your account, navigate to the catalogue and search for an item you'd like to put in your bookbag.
5. Click on the title of the item to see the item details.
6. In the far, right-hand corner click where it says "More Actions..." click and select the title of the bookbag you just created. You will get a message that says "Item Succesfully Added to Bookbag".
To view and manage your bookbag go back to "My Account" and select the "My Bookbags" tab.
